Hello my friends,
do you believe in happenstances? Me neither, because even though some things seem to be accidental or not like the way we would like them to be, I believe that everything happens for a reason. Now I will not write about any mysterious occurrences we see in films, but for the small lucky coincidences of our everyday life. 🙂
So, what am I talking about?
As you know I’m very interested in islamic-inspired flowers at the moment. A few days ago Samira Mian – an artist on instagram – showed her books concerning islamic art and immediately I ordered the one I wanted most via internet.
Bad luck for me, it wasn’t available anymore and so I started to search for some other inspiring reading for me. Quite fast I found a book called ‘The Embroidery of the Greek Islands and Epirus’ and ordered this one. The greek embroidery is in any case very interesting for me and I thought I could search in this book for similarities between the flowers in the greek embroideries and the islamic inspired flowers.
Just two days later the book arrived. I opened the package and held a book in my hands: ‘Ottoman Embroidery’!
Was the universe kidding me?
This book I did not order is my lucky coincidence! It has so many embroidered flowers and is combining the history of the Ottoman Empire with the art form of embroidery – an amazing reading for sure!
Still I wanted to have the book about the greek embroidery, so I ordered it as well. Today it arrived and now – if I add the book ‘What is Islamic Art?’ from Wendy M. K. Shaw I have as well – I will have enough to read for the rest of the year.
For the sceptics between us, are you still believing in happenstances?
I would love to read about your lucky coincidences, so please let me know in the comments below.
Stay happy and creative!
Yours, Thea
